Start at Imogene + Willie. The shop runs out of a converted 1950s gas station in 12South, and it is the rare place where you can order made-to-measure jeans in person. Imogene + Willie

The gas station at 2601 12th Ave S has been the brand's home since Matt and Carrie Eddmenson founded it in 2009. Everything is American-made, and the shop pairs made-to-measure denim with in-house tailoring, which makes it the best stop in the city if you want a pair built around your numbers rather than pulled off a rack. It is also the one Nashville store in our records that sells its own label only, which keeps the floor focused. You will not find a rack of Iron Heart or Momotaro here. Loyal Stricklin started as a leather workshop, and the showroom on Dunn Avenue still reads that way. It is a working space more than a retail front: made-to-order denim, outerwear, and leather goods are cut and sewn in-house in Tennessee, and visitors can watch the production floor while they shop. That is a different experience from anything else in the state. Do not expect a big multi-brand wall. Expect a small room where the person who can make the thing is usually within earshot.

Nisolo

Nisolo's Nashville showroom sits in Germantown at 1803 9th Ave N, and it is the natural companion stop for a denim wardrobe: ethically made leather shoes and accessories rather than jeans.
