Raw Denim Black Friday 2026: How to Spot Real Deals
Last updated October 17, 2026. This page updates daily through Cyber Monday as verified deals go live.
Every November, your inbox fills with "40% off everything" emails. Almost none of them are for the jeans you actually want. Raw denim Black Friday works differently from the rest of fashion retail. Small-batch selvedge is made in limited runs by brands with no clearance calendar, so most pairs never go on sale at all.
We know because we watch. Selvedge Denim List takes a daily price snapshot of 3,210 selvedge products at about 90 US stores and brand sites. In the last 30 days, only 1.4% of them had a verified price drop. That makes the few real Black Friday markdowns worth catching.
This guide covers what you need before November 27:
- When raw denim Black Friday sales start, and which days matter
- Which stores and brands discount, and which almost never do
- Baseline prices, so you know what a good deal looks like
- Sizing and return checks to make before the sale
- A live deal tracker that fills in as sales launch
When Is Black Friday 2026, and When Do Raw Denim Sales Start?
Black Friday 2026 is Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving. For selvedge shoppers, though, the event is now a long weekend at minimum. Many shops run it closer to a week or more.
The key dates
| Date | Day | What usually happens |
|---|---|---|
| Early to mid November | Varies | Newsletter early access and "preview" codes from some brands |
| Thursday, Nov 26 | Thanksgiving | Some online sales open the evening before Black Friday |
| Friday, Nov 27 | Black Friday | Most specialty denim sales start |
| Saturday, Nov 28 | Small Business Saturday | Independent shops push in-store events |
| Monday, Nov 30 | Cyber Monday | Final day for most codes; some extend a day or two |
The shape of a raw denim Black Friday is predictable even if the deals aren't. Specialty retailers tend to run one short, clearly defined window. Self Edge's past Black Friday sales are the template: 15% off in store and online, Friday through Monday, with hems and repairs excluded. That's a typical structure for an independent denim shop: modest, time-boxed and storewide.
Why "Black Friday" now means "November"
The big chains keep moving their start dates earlier. UK consumer group Which? found four of the retailers in its survey opened their 2025 Black Friday sales in late October and ran them into December. In the denim world, Thomas of Denimhunters, a raw denim site since 2011, called the trend "Black Craziness" and kept his own brand out of discounting entirely.
Small selvedge brands mostly don't stretch sales across a month. They can't afford to. Margins on short-run Japanese or American fabric are thin, and stock is limited. What they do instead is send codes to their email list first, sometimes days before the public sale.
What this means for your timing
The practical move is to join newsletters for the two or three brands you'd actually buy from, now. Early access often comes with the full size run, which matters more in selvedge than in almost any other category (more on that below).
Also watch Cyber Monday. Adobe's tracking of US online sales found apparel discounts peaked at about 25% off list price on Cyber Monday 2025. That's across all apparel, not denim specifically, but it shows Monday isn't just leftovers. If you're after Cyber Monday raw denim deals, expect some stores to deepen a discount or extend it rather than end it.
We'll log each sale's start and end time in the tracker below as stores announce them.
Does Selvedge Denim Actually Go on Sale? What Our Data Shows
Mostly, no. That's the single most useful thing to know going into a raw denim Black Friday. Our live price report recomputes every day over a rolling 30 days. As of October 17, 2026:
| Measure (last 30 days) | Value |
|---|---|
| Products with a verified price drop | 41 of 2,959 (1.4%) |
| Median verified drop | 16.9% |
| Largest verified drop | 45.0% |
| Sellers that ran any markdown | 15 of about 90 |
| Verified price rises | 12 |
We count a price change only if the new price shows up in two consecutive daily snapshots. One-day glitches and cart tricks don't make it in.
Drops are rare, but they're real
Our first full study, 30 Days of Selvedge Prices, found the same pattern from August 15 to September 14. Only 68 of 2,823 products dropped, or 2.4%. When they did, the median cut was 17.6% and the largest was 37.7%. A selvedge jeans sale in this niche is a real markdown when it happens, not a token 5%.
Sales are events at specific shops
Drops also cluster. In the September window, one stockist's Japan Blue sale alone produced a run of identical 30% cuts. Recent examples from the live report include a Rogue Territory Relaxed Strider marked from $355 to $245 on the brand site, and Levi's 501 Original Selvedge models down 30% at Blue Seven.
The lesson: Black Friday selvedge deals come from a handful of retailers deciding to run a sale. They don't come from the market as a whole getting cheaper. Knowing which shops tend to discount is worth more than refreshing product pages.
Prices go up, too
In the September study we verified 38 price increases, with a median rise of 5.5%, against 68 drops. Mill costs, yen movements and small brands repricing all push the same way. Waiting for a raw denim sale isn't free. The pair you're holding out on can get more expensive.
We'll publish a 90-day version of this study in mid-November, including whether Black Friday moved the numbers at all. It will be linked here.
Who Discounts for Black Friday, and Who Doesn't
Raw denim Black Friday discounting splits cleanly by type of seller. Here's how they usually behave, based on past sales and our tracking.
Specialty denim retailers
Independent shops are the most likely to run a storewide event, usually 10% to 20% off for a long weekend. Self Edge's 15% Friday-to-Monday format from past years is typical. These are the best places to look for Japanese denim Black Friday deals, because the store discounts brands that never discount themselves. Browse our store directory to see which shops near you stock what.
Value-focused selvedge brands
Brands that already sit at the low end often run their own codes, the kind that fill Denimhunters' annual Black Friday roundup. Brave Star's everyday median is already $148 in our data, so even a modest code there pushes real selvedge toward $100.
Japanese heritage makers
Iron Heart, Samurai and Full Count sit at the top of the market, with medians of $375 to $385 in our data. When their pairs do show up in Black Friday sales, it's usually through a stockist's storewide code, such as the Self Edge event above.
#### The importer gap
One exception is worth knowing. In our price study, the same jean cost the same at the brand site and at stores 85.4% of the time. The gaps clustered in Japanese brands sold through US importers. One Full Count 1103 straight was $365 on the brand site and $255 at the cheapest store. Before Black Friday, check every seller of a Japanese pair. The "deal" may already exist at full price elsewhere.
Brands that sit it out
Some makers skip Black Friday on principle. As far back as 2012, Put This On noted that 3sixteen rarely discounted its jeans, so even 10% off was news. If the brand you want never discounts, don't wait for it.
What a Good Price Looks Like: Baseline Prices to Know
You can't judge a deal without knowing the normal price. Here's the baseline from our study of 1,346 selvedge jeans in stock on October 8, 2026. Write these down before the sales start.
The median pair costs $298. Half of all pairs fall between $248 and $367, and 72.1% sit between $200 and $399. Anything under $200 is in the cheapest 15.5% of the market.
Median price by brand
| Brand | Models tracked | Median price | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iron Heart | 164 | $385 | $147.50 to $500 |
| Samurai | 80 | $378.50 | $295 to $565 |
| Full Count | 88 | $375 | $240 to $970 |
| Freenote Cloth | 71 | $305 | $250 to $325 |
| Hiroshi Kato | 84 | $258 | $198 to $368 |
| Naked & Famous | 107 | $188 | $99 to $328 |
| Brave Star Selvage | 60 | $148 | $118 to $228 |
Median price by weight
Heavier denim costs more, steadily. The median runs from $245 under 12 oz to $285 at 12 to 14.9 oz, $315 at 15 to 17.9 oz, $342.50 at 18 to 20.9 oz, and $395 at 21 oz and up. If you're hunting heavyweight denim deals, a 21 oz pair under $300 is already well below typical. Brave Star sells 21.5 oz pairs at $178 every day.
Use the baseline, not the sticker
Here's the insight most raw denim Black Friday roundups miss. A 20% code on a $385 Iron Heart pair lands at $308, which is still above the market median. Meanwhile selvedge jeans under $200 are available at full price all year from Naked & Famous, Brave Star and Unbranded. Decide which you want, a specific premium pair or the best value, before a percentage sign decides for you. Our under $150 and under $250 pages are updated daily.
How to Prepare for Raw Denim Black Friday Before the Sales Start
The best raw denim Black Friday purchases are decided in October. Sale weekends move fast, sizes vanish, and many discounted pairs are final sale. Do this homework now.
Know your size in each brand
Raw denim sizing is the biggest risk in any sale. Measure a pair that fits you well, laid flat: waist, front rise, thigh, knee, leg opening and inseam. Then compare against each brand's size chart, not the tag size. Our fit guide walks through each measurement.
Two rules matter most for raw denim sizing:
- The waist stretches 0.5 to 1 inch with wear. If you're between sizes, size down.
- The thigh barely stretches. Size for comfort there, because you can't fix a tight thigh later.
Check whether it's sanforized
Sanforized vs unsanforized decides how a pair will change. Sanforized (pre-shrunk) and one-wash denim are close to what-you-measure-is-what-you-get. Unsanforized, or "shrink-to-fit," fabric can shrink noticeably on its first soak, especially in length. Raw denim generally loses 1 to 2 inches of length after the first wash. Plan your hem around that. Our hemming guide covers chain stitch versus lock stitch and finding the right inseam.
Read the return policy first
Black Friday terms are often stricter than normal. Before the sale, check each store you'd buy from for three things:
- Is sale merchandise final sale, or returnable?
- Is hemming included, and does a hemmed pair become non-returnable?
- Who pays return shipping?
If a pair is final sale and you've never worn that brand, the discount is buying you risk. A 15% saving doesn't cover a pair that doesn't fit.
Build a short list
Pick two or three specific pairs, with sizes, and note today's price for each. Then watch them. Our alerts fire only on verified two-snapshot price drops or size restocks, at most one email a day. When a real Black Friday price lands, you'll know within a day.
Should You Wait for Black Friday or Buy Now?
This is where our data breaks from standard deal advice. In most categories, waiting for Black Friday is low-risk. In small-batch selvedge, your size is the thing that disappears.
Sizes sell out long before products do
Over the last 30 days, we logged 1,718 size-availability changes against only 104 full sellouts. In other words, size runs break constantly while the product page stays up. Of those 104 sold-out products, only 35 came back, after a median of 6 days. In our September study, only 12 of 106 sellouts returned within the window.
In small-batch denim, sold out mostly means gone. A Black Friday discount on a pair that no longer comes in your size is worth nothing.
A simple rule
Combine the numbers and the decision gets easy:
- Your size is in stock now, at a price you can live with: the odds favor buying now. Only about 1 in 70 products drops in a given month, and prices rise too.
- The price is out of reach: watch it, and wait for a verified drop or a stockist's storewide code.
- You're trying a new brand: buy from a store with free returns, even at full price, before chasing a final-sale discount.
That's the honest answer to the best time to buy raw denim: when the right size is available from a seller you trust. Black Friday is a bonus, not a plan.
Black Friday Raw Denim Deal Tracker
Updated daily from November 1 through Cyber Monday, November 30.
As of October 17, this tracker has no confirmed 2026 sales yet. As each one goes live, it lands in this table with its dates, code and our check against that pair's normal price. Rows below are the sellers we'll be watching first for raw denim Black Friday 2026, based on past sales and current markdown activity.
| Store or brand | Deal | Dates | Checked against normal price? | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Self Edge | Past events: 15% off in store and online | Not announced | ||
| Brave Star Selvage | Past events: low-price selvedge specials | Not announced | ||
| Rogue Territory | Currently marking down select pairs | Not announced | ||
| Blue Seven | Currently marking down Levi's selvedge | Not announced |
How we verify each deal
Every selvedge denim Black Friday deal in this table gets three checks before it's marked verified:
- Real price. The sale price must appear in our daily snapshots, not just in an email.
- Real discount. We compare it with that model's trailing 90-day median.
- Real stock. We note whether common sizes (30 to 36 waist) are still available.
Get alerts instead of refreshing
If you'd rather not check back, heart the pairs you want. You'll get an email when a verified Black Friday drop hits, or when your size restocks. The weekly This Week in Selvedge email will also round up every live raw denim sale each Thursday in November.
Are you a store or brand? Send your Black Friday dates and terms through our contact page and we'll add you once the price checks out.
Quick Takeaways
- Black Friday 2026 is November 27. Cyber Monday is November 30, and most specialty denim sales sit inside that window.
- Selvedge rarely goes on sale. Only 1.4% of 2,959 tracked products had a verified price drop in the last 30 days.
- Real drops are meaningful. The median verified cut is about 17%, and drops cluster at a few shops.
- Know the baseline. The median pair costs $298. A discounted premium pair can still cost more than a full-price value pair.
- Your size is the real deadline. Size runs changed 1,718 times in 30 days, while only 104 products sold out completely.
- Prepare now. Measure, check sanforization and return terms, and set price alerts on two or three specific pairs.
Conclusion: Make Raw Denim Black Friday Work for You
Raw denim Black Friday isn't the free-for-all that mainstream fashion promises. Most selvedge never goes on sale, prices rise almost as often as they fall, and the size you need can vanish while you wait. That's not a reason to skip the sales. It's a reason to shop them with a plan.
The real deals are there. They come from a handful of specialty shops running short storewide events, from value brands cutting already-low prices, and from the occasional deep markdown on a specific line. A verified 15% to 20% off the right pair, in your size, from a store that takes returns, is a genuinely good result.
What separates a good buy from a bad one is homework. Know the normal price before the sale starts. Measure your best-fitting pair, read the return policy, and decide whether a full-price pair in stock today beats a maybe-discount in five weeks.
We'll do the checking for you. Bookmark this page. The tracker above updates every day from November 1 through Cyber Monday, with every deal compared against its own price history.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does selvedge denim go on sale for Black Friday?
Some does, but far less than mainstream fashion. Only 1.4% of the 2,959 products we track had a verified price drop in the last 30 days. Raw denim Black Friday sales mostly come from specialty stores running storewide codes of 10% to 20%, plus value brands discounting their own lines.
When do raw denim Black Friday sales start?
Most specialty denim sales run from Black Friday, November 27, 2026, through Cyber Monday, November 30. Some brands give newsletter subscribers early access days before. Big retailers often start in late October or early November, but small selvedge shops usually keep their window short.
What is a good price for selvedge jeans on Black Friday?
Compare against the baseline. The median pair costs $298, and under $200 puts you in the cheapest 15.5% of the market. A good deal is a verified price below that pair's own normal price, not just a big percentage off a "compare-at" figure.
Are Japanese denim Black Friday deals worth waiting for?
Only if your size will still be there. Japanese heritage pairs mostly reach Black Friday through stockists' storewide codes rather than brand sales. Meanwhile, size runs break constantly. If your size is in stock at a price you accept, buying now is often the safer choice.
Should I size down when buying raw denim on sale?
Often, yes. Raw denim usually stretches 0.5 to 1 inch in the waist, so size down if you're between sizes. Sanforized and one-wash pairs are closer to true size. Check whether sale items are final sale before you gamble on a new brand's sizing.
Is Cyber Monday better than Black Friday for raw denim?
Usually it's the same sale. Most denim shops run one event from Friday to Monday. Across all US apparel, Adobe found discounts peaked around 25% off list on Cyber Monday 2025, so Monday can still bring the best price. Sizes, though, are thinner by then.
